Debuts

Just weeks ago, I remember telling my mom how I miss DEBUTS.

The years just ran too fast, and my generation is nowhere near that sweet 18 age. ;D During those few years when my friends celebrate their 18th, in a month there'll be parties here and there, even to the point that a day may have 2-3 overlapping debuts! :D

Anyway, I long for this type of event because I just love parties! I love FOOD! And I love debut because, unlike weddings where 2 persons are celebrated, debut has the Star of the Show---that one person who will feel in the most amplified way how much special she is to everyone around her. It's also a transition of "the baby now a lady"...a tradition to a lot of Pinoys! :)

Just weeks ago, my friend from Anagon Collection (a buyer turned friend :)) Sis Kat G invited me to the birthday of her friend in school. Here's the catch, I am invited in the DEBUT as a SURPRISE GUEST! :D Turns out that the celebrant is (in Kat's words, because I hate building up myself unless as a joke hahaha)... "a big fan from your Candy Magazine days". :D

I have to admit that I was hesitant at first---I was shy, but also at the same time, it's weird for me to act like some star who will just go in a party where I only know one person (my buyer/friend!)... Plus it was a Sunday (the day everyone in the family is home)! :D but what motivated me to go with this gimmick is when I heard stories of people that I look up to (mostly from UAAP! :D haha!) who takes the invitation of fans for surprise gimmicks or to be a speaker to events, etc...I realized that who am I to say no?

And so last Sunday, clad in my yellow blouse to be intuned with the PASTELS party-motiff, I went to Kowloon House West Ave with Sis Kat G. Since this will be for her 18 Treasures role...we decided that I shouldnt enter the venue till she calls me...So I looked for a place near Kowloon, and settled for the Karinderia version just next door (I need to save at least! ;D). I waited for more than 2 hours, ate the lugaw in the Karinderia, + stayed in the Lobby (even befriend the guard!), texted Alli and Marj to entertain myself, and even asked Alli through text "ano kaya ang plan ni Lord bat niya pinaparanas ito sa akin?" ..hahaha! =D

Good thing the surprise went well as planned, when my time came to enter the function room, Jen was super shocked, and even shed some tears while I read to her my message =)

...and really, 2 hours of travel on a lazy-Sunday, 2 more hours of waiting, but only a few minutes of making someone feel extra-special in her extra-special day, really, is enough reason to say that this day is a blessing. :)

Harry Potter

Oh the film did not disappoint! =)

I super enjoyed it—it is funny, and kilig (especially Ron and Hermione!), and at the same time dark and heavy by the end. Though the English accent can be too heavy for my comprehension, haha! :D

I missed everyone too! I guess, even though the film is “bitin” (cut short), what made it super-special for me is for sentimentality reasons. I grew up with Harry Potter! Of course there's the 7 books, and then the movies---I remembered the first movie was a big thrill in our classroom! I love Daniel Radcliffe when I was in 3rd year high school! :D In the cinema for this movie, every time a character shows up, I was like: "Oh! Ang tanda na nia!!!" (Oh, He/She's all grown up!!!)

Since Marj is super nice to give to us the 6 tickets she bought from a friend with a charity project, I went to Trinoma last Friday with Geo and Fred, wearing my good ol’ hot pink Hogwarts shirt! :D This was a Christmas present from my tita the year the first movie came up. I remember how super open I was on my love for Daniel Radcliffe—complete with clear book of interview clippings and photos! :D That time, the t-shirt is loose that I use it for overnights! Haha!

I remembered taking up quizzes on "What House are you in?"--Sorting Hat stuff--and end up in Slytherin! ;p

I heart my new shoes!!!

The following day, I had a mini-photoshoot at Ateneo, with Geo's sisters...for my new Hippie Bands and Headbands. Look at this pic:

The Biker or the Ballerina?

Last Friday, I went to Makati Medical Center with some of my high school friends Barx to visit Geo with her new sister! =) Tita Brenda, Geo’s mom, gave birth to Arabella (or Bella, ala Twilight as Geo joked hehe)…the 5th girl in their family, except for 5th child Josh the only boy—who was disappointed at first, but we caught him acting as a cute “kuya” in the hospital (kuya – older brother). And like all Hernandez, Arabella is super duper cute—rosy chubby cheeks and all! =) What a love!

That day, after so many shoes-change because of the weather (I can’t wear my new leather-ish booties coz the rain might destroy them!)…I came as the biker girl. The fashion principle behind how I put them together was how magazines kept on repeating that one can “toughen a sweet frock”—by placing a cover-up –a structured blazer, denim jacket, or boyfriend’s jacket. So I used my brand new biker black jacket over my old floral lacey top with the black semi-tutu built in it.

At the hospital, Me-an told me: “Ang cute mo! Para kang ballerina! Alisin mo yun jacket mo!” (You’re cute! You look like a ballerina! Take off your jacket!”

Me: “Pero biker ako e!” (But I’m a biker!)

Me-an: “Fail! Para kang mag baballet!” (Fail! You look like you’re going to ballet!)

Marj: “Nung tinititigan kita sa lobby, naisip ko Megan Fox!” (While I was looking at you in the lobby, I thought of Megan Fox!)

And from there, the endless teasing started! The words and comments you’ll have to take for the sake of fashion! Hahaha! I haven’t even watched the Transformers! :D
It’s fun, though, the thought that your feelings and thoughts materializing into your clothes are noticed by others. =)

...And Me-an was right, i guess! :D Black tights, tutu, and ballet flats, i did looked like a black ballerina! ;D

Welcome to my room!

Haha! I seldom show off my little space, but here’s a post of another side of my room! ;-) I always “pose” in front of my door, but this time, here’s my window area, a typical one with a long ledge in front --where most of my boxes and containers of beads and accessories are stored! =) Cabinets below hold my magazines, books, art materials, etcetera! =) My room is in my all-time favorite color combination of blue-and-yellow, thus the celestial curtains. ;D



Had meet ups again yesterday, from DLSU to UST, then off-route to Mandaluyong (from UST, I rode a jeep to recto, took LRT2 to Cubao, which interconnects with MRT—where I headed for Boni Station which is just blocks away to the Summit Office!) …to drop off accessories for a Candymag sitch feature =) Last stop was in Glorietta where I had Breadtalk AND Krispy Kreme while taking my mom’s advice of resting for 30 minutes. I was afraid of getting sick again..and my feet deserve the break! ;D



Anyway, if you have nothing to wear, don’t be afraid to do a repeat! ;) Especially if you’re heading to a different place, meeting different sets of people...I just try to mix-match them to make them a bit unrecognizable. Accessorizing helps too! ;)

I wore my Here Comes the Sun tee again, with a black cover-up I’ve worn in a previous post with my one-piece floral jumpsuit. I am loving my Peace-Love necklace in Red and Black leather cord, so I guess you’ll be expecting me wearing this for the next few posts! Haha!

I have nothing else to say! :D Except that I love the mid-year sale happening in almost every mall I’ve been to! Hahaha! Will Divisoria have a mid-year sale? :D Marj and I will be going there tomorrow to hunt for nice shoes and dresses! I have to “replenish” my closet! :D

Back in the streets!

Last Friday was my first time to go out for meet-ups again, after 2 weeks of recovering from sickness, and commute my way to Metro Manila.

I wasn’t sure of my mood that morning, and have nothing prepared in my head of what I will be wearing, so I just went for my favorite Eheads reunion concert tee I bought online (through my sister’s help). I had it in Large (or was it XL?) size, cut its neckline (like how Cea taught me with my tees), and wore it double-folded up the sleeves for the “rock star” effect. I just wore my skinny jeans and Sanuk (and Anagon Collection accessories!) with it—on the go for the metro! =)

I wore my hair down to show-off my Korean-cut. I don’t know what I was thinking because it was sunny-hot when I got out of our house to walk a few blocks down to the tricycle station. But I when I reached Taft area in La Salle for my first meet-up, it started drizzling. Come my second schedule for the day, the sun and the rain can’t decide who will go on, so they clashed and danced together. Talk about a big “comeback” for your Fashionista Commuter! ;D


What I discovered today:

1. I saw a lot of kids wearing their Ako Mismo dogtags. (Ako Mismo = I Myself)
It can look a bit awkward to some, and I realized it’s the length of the ball chains (bitin/too short). My second meet-up was with my daughter in St. Scho Days with the Lord, Gem, who wore her tag longer—in black ball chains, and she told me she went to the actual event (so her dog tag is original)…but she changed the short chains. I hope that those I sighted wearing their Ako Mismo tags are taking into heart (and action) what this accessory is actually all about.


2. On my way to the 711 for a drink (a hot part of the day), I came across a young guy with black fedora, black coat (or was it a polo?) over his white shirt, black pants and rubber shoes, semi projecting (I guess) the King of Pop.


It’s something I’d like to do too days ago, weekend after the passing away of music icon Michael Jackson. I want to wear bitin pants with my leather black shoes, with white socks peeping, but I wasn’t able to push-through with my “tribute” because: a) I can’t find the pair of my one-and-only white socks (with little penguin prints). And b) I realized that I already reconstructed my favorite (yet old and torn) skinny black jeans, and cut them to form another function that isn’t something you will wear.



Anyway, like the Ako Mismo dog tag (that aims to serve as a reminder of acting your part, even the smallest of gestures, for the country’s betterment), “wearing Jacko” is not only to remind people of the great talented guy who can dance, sing, and create history-shaking music videos, but also to remind people of the content of Michael’s songs. I love Heal the World, I’ll be there, Black and White, and Man in the Mirror. =) I feel teary eyed all the time when TV Patrol World would play You are not alone!


3. I realized that don’t have a whole-body photo of my outfit for today; the picture above was outside Conti’s Serendra after family quick dinner, and we ran into Me-an! =) I also bought Candy Magazine earlier because I saw that Empress Schuck, the young actress, was featured at the Flashback section (fashion/style then and now), and she again mentioned the necklace I gave to her! I am so touched! =)

The day was long, and I feel so tired right after…but I am happy I am back! Honestly, I missed Metro Manila and its way of teaching me things. The way that when I take a jeepney, a train, or looong bus rides, the lull moments will always bring me to either think and observe the things and people happening around (or outside of) me, or reflect on things that are happening inside of me. I might felt a bit sick that night (due to tiredness and excessive pollution intake hehe), but I knew that another day with Maynila kong mahal (Manila that I love) made me one notch stronger, one notch braver, and one notch wiser. =)

The journey is always worth it. ;)
