By public modes of transportation, in my experience, these can be the tricycle, a jeep, a bus, or even the LRT and MRT (trains). I rely on these rides to reach that which keeps me up with my life. Be it a hangout with my friends in Makati, a meet-up in Ortigas with a buyer from my online shop, or a meeting with my supplier in Manila to replenish my stocks…I have to go through every inch of grime, pollution, and tragedy of being a certified hardcore Metro Manila commuter just to reach my destination. That is usually more than an hour’s worth of adventure!
Today, my friend Marj and I planned to go to a private sale at the Fort by Soak Swimwear, a local online boutique with the cute and catchy tagline: The beach is your catwalk. To be able to go there, I have to walk from my house to the tricycle stand, take a ride from there to “labasan” (outside our subdivision), take a jeep to reach the bus station, and ride the “biyaheng Ortigas/Cubao” bus. I dropped off at the Magallanes MRT station, and waited for Marj to pick me up from there.
In the course of my commuting, I had on my blue-violet Julia Plus boho top, Herbench worn out skinny black jeans, a big soft violet bag with nice Indian-ish print I bought in Davao, my transparent umbrella (because of the summer rains), and my comfy Gold Shine-it Sanuk.
During the private sale and at our hangout in Serendra’s Cupcakes by Sonja, I added a classy short bronze necklace and stacked Buddha beads bracelets both from Anagon
Also posted the pic of my cousin’s wedding where I’ve also worn
my Julia Plus top as a more formal dress, accessorized with Anagon Collection Hippie Band and gold bangle, and red patent with gold buckle semi-wedged shoes from Charles and Keith (cannot be seen in the pic, hehe).
Though not everyone has the luxury life of having their own car to get themselves to their destination, or a driver to pick them up and drive them wherever…The commuter’s life made me more independent and brave than what I would have been if my mom did not threw me after high school in the commuters’ unruly and unglamorous world.
And besides, fashion is for everyone, and to borrow and alter Soak Swimwear’s tagline, the street is my catwalk. ;-)
