I finally had the chance to go back to Macau, and have a real itinerary. The last time I went there about a decade ago, my friends and I just took pictures and shopped at The Venetian. 😅 I was also finally able to try traveling from Hong Kong to Macau by bus! This trip was short, but packed with new experiences. Sharing here our Macau day trip from Hong Kong by bus, and our itinerary!
Macau, often referred to as the "Las Vegas of Asia," is a vibrant and culturally diverse region located on the southern coast of China. A day trip to Macau can be a fantastic experience, as this special administrative region of China is known for its blend of Portuguese and Chinese cultures, historic architecture, vibrant casinos, and delicious cuisine.
If you're looking for a contrast to the bustling urban areas of the city, then a day-trip to Hong Kong's largest island is the perfect solution. It only took us around 30 minute to get to Lantau Island, including the time spent inside a picturesque cable car ride.
Here are some key features and information about Lantau Island:
I can't miss breakfast. I can't imagine that I did IF (Intermittent Fasting) during the pandemic, but I wasn't even going out then. Now I need my breakfast more than ever, after I stopped drinking coffee (for health reasons)--it has been my energy booster in the morning before a long day!
On our first day in Hong Kong, I woke up early so Cea and I can enjoy a full day in Lantau Island. Before heading to the cable car that connects the city to this mountainous island, we went to what the internet dubbed as "the best traditional breakfast in Hong Kong".
Morning scenes in Hong Kong, on our way to the nearest subway station in Mongkok:
Like any day 1s, Cea and I decided to just take it easy upon arriving in Hong Kong.
We had our lunch at the airport Mcdo, took the airport bus to our Airbnb in Mongkok, and then rested a bit in our room. It was late in the afternoon when we decided to walk outside and hop on the nearest train station.
The name of the place we were going to is Arte Museum or ARTE M Hong Kong--depends where you're searching. I discovered it while browsing Klook for ideas.
Traveled last March 31 to April 4, 2023
Seems like revenge travel is not just a one time thing! It's as if I've been going back to all the places I've been to pre-pandemic, but minus the pacing. 😂
But I'm glad I was able to have this quick trip to Hong Kong with my sis. It's our own "revenge travel"--sisters edition! We've travelled a lot in the past, including Japan (Hokkaido), Korea (Jeju Island), and our epic India trip!
For this, we used the Cathay Pacific roundtrip tickets that I won from the Airport Authority of Hong Kong's event a few months ago. We scheduled our trip just before the Holy Week, morning flight. And since sis has full time office work, we agreed on just traveling for 5D4N.
There's also a different kind of fun in a Sisters Trip! |
