Peter Pan

Friday, May 01, 2009

Today is dinner day with my Barx. We ate at Shakeys in Valero St., Makati, instead of our original plan in Chili Peppers because the indie place was jam-packed!

My outfit today looks taken from Disney’s Peter Pan (HAHA!)…but I don’t mind the comparison, since Peter is my childhood hero! :D I added the sunny yellow bag and the rainbow accessories just to let colors pop in my dark ensemble. Nobody laughed at me during dinner, so I thought my clothes are still

pretty much on the normal level. HAHA! (and i was able to go home safe at past 12!)

The dinner with Reg, Marj, Me-an (who was there the last minute, but at least she came! Yey!) and Bodz with her boyfriend Zac was super fun. Organizing dinners in our group isn’t easy, since there are 16 of us! All-girls! Friends since high school! Haha! I am just happy that after piling myself with fatty pizza carbs, and draining my wallet with the dinner and post-dinner hang outs….I feel so blessed to be piled with my friends’ life updates, and all stress drained out of my system just by being with them =)

Conversations with my friends now include the “real world”. How’s work? How’s med school? Salaries. Bonuses. Who in the barkada is still together
with their guy. Who reunited. People at work/school. What’s our next projects. Where will we travel next to unwind. Etc. We feel so oldie! While talking about money, Marj, a medicine student, blurted out: “Feeling ko ang bata ko pa!” (I feel like I am still a kid!)…since she’s not yet earning her own money. I told her: “Ako rin noh!” (Me too!). Especially that my line of work—selling accessories targeting teenage girls—makes me feel young at heart. I talk to teens 24/7, I read teen magazines to catch up on what are the latest trends for them, and I meet up

with teen buyers! My world revolves around teenage girls (and they are the ones who sustain me!!!) … but I have no regrets! I love being surrounded with young and lively people! =)

Like my hero Pan, I don’t want to grow up! :D

Awhile ago, I rode a taxi from Greenbelt to Chili Peppers in Valero Street. I wasn’t really planning on spending again on cab fare, and just walk my way to the place where my high school friends plan to have dinner and hang out…but as I was walking towards the left side, I asked the kind-looking lady waiting for a cab where Valero Street is…she pointed towards the right direction. So I took 360 degrees turn from where I was walking, when I saw an MMDA officer (traffic enforcer) resting in his parked motorcycle and asked again what direction to take just to make sure. He pointed left (where I was going to in the first place!). Since it’s already late, I decided walking and being overly-thrifty wouldn’t take me anywhere. The traffic enforcer helped me get a cab after joking that he’ll take me to Valero in his two-wheeler! :D

In the cab, the taxi driver and I had small talks, when he said: “Nakakatamad magpa gas!” (I feel lazy to refill my gas tank!). I asked: “Bakit naman po?” (Why?) “E ang mahal e! Maganda sana panay sakay nalang, wala nang gas gas!” (The gas rates are too high! It would have been better if I just take passengers, and don’t have to refill my tank!)

Laughing, I said to Mr. Driver: “E parte ho yun e. Kailangan may puhunan talaga! Ako nga ho tindera lang e.” (But that’s part of it! You really have to bring out money! I myself am a vendor.)

“Saan?” (Where?)

“Wala ho, online lang, wala akong pwesto. Nagbebenta ako ng mga kung ano ano na pambababe.” (I sell online, I don’t have any stalls. I sell different stuff for girls).

When we reached the place, I gave Kuya (what people in our country call men older than you) double of his meter, thinking that it would help even a bit in his business. I always have that spot for vendors/sellers. The other day, while waiting for a mall to open, I saw a man walking around the waiting people, holding out weird duck puppets with tongues that stick-out followed by a whistling sound. I do not want to look at him when he reached my side, since I knew my soft-spot for sellers might hit me to buy his products.

This outfit isn’t really something you’ll see in a fashion blog.

But I wore this last Wednesday, my “Meet-up Day” around Metro Manila, where I spent the whole day handling a total of 5 transactions in different pick up points. The clothes might not be the best pieces put-together, but it made me feel comfortable while transferring from trains to jeepneys to FX…and presentable when I hand my buyers their packages. =) And besides, fashion isn’t only about being trendy. Sometimes, it’s about you being at ease with what you are wearing; allowing you to fulfill your duties and not minding if you still look okay. ;)
