Guest Post: Signs that your make up is already expired

I think it's my first time to entertain a "guest post" here in my blog. Ann Joy emailed me few weeks ago, and although this is pretty much new to me, I can never say no to the "young bloods"! She even sent me a list of topics I might be interested in. Anyway, I hope she gets the right push to write even more after this post. Read up on her Expired Makeup article, and all the best to you Ann Joy!

Girls need to look pretty every time they present themselves in a crowd. Make up is the common thing which helps them feel confident. Thus, if you wear an old makeup, you will surely suffer from itching, skin redness and skin infection. Instead of getting that confidence, you might not want to go out anymore. Sometimes, girls forget to check if their kits are still good to use. Others even use their kit until it empties without them being concern if it’s already expired or not.

In this article, we’ll discuss about five signs which indicate if your make up is  already expired or still up for its job.

1) The color, it is one of the indicators if your make up is still good to use. Almost all of the makeup containers have a color sticker at the bottom. This indicates the tone color of the product. If its color matches the actual color, then it is still good to put on, but if it doesn’t match, don’t think twice to put it in the trash. It is already expired and it will definitely irritate your skin.

2) Check its texture. If it’s not in the usual texture (smooth and/or creamy) then it’s already for the bin. For example, if the makeup you’re using should have a creamy texture, it shouldn’t feel too sticky.

3) If you’re still not sure about the color and texture, try to smell it. Sometimes, the color and texture is changing because of the way it has been kept. Make ups should be stored in a cool and dark place. This could prevent it from any damage the heat may produce.

Anyway, back to the smell… if you sniffed a sour or plastic-like smell; don’t hesitate to drop it on your trash bin. This is a good enough reason to get rid of it.

4) Like food, make ups also can build molds and bacteria. That’s why it should be kept well. If molds are already visible, don’t allow it to hurt you by continuously using it. Prevention is still better than cure. You might want to buy a new makeup instead, rather than to buy lots of anti-skin irritation creams.

5) Last but not least, the obvious indicator that your make ups should go bye-bye. It is the physical appearance.

Check if it’s already dry. Liquid, water-base, oil-base and powder make ups all dries when expired. Some products don’t have the expiration date printed on its container, that’s why you need to know how to spot the good-ones. Always remember that a water-base make up lasts only for one year, meanwhile, an oil-based makeup could last longer. Thus, water-based makeup can dry faster than the usual even if it’s not yet expired; you can just drop a skin-toner on it to bring back its texture. Remember to use an alcohol free toner. Most liquid make ups last for a year and sticks-kind of makeup last for not more than two years.

Things to remember: No matter how you like to use your friend’s kit or the other way around, DON’T! It doesn’t matter if she or you don’t have any skin disease, it’s just not wise to share make ups. Most especially when you don’t share the same skin tone and skin complexion (dry, oily or natural).
