Cebu Day 4

Saturday, February 02, 2013

Decided to be a hermit and stayed at home on a Saturday to work on my Love Notes project
The whole Crazy Gonzales went out, and my hands are a bit tired na ngayon, so kwentuhan ko muna kayo. Mga fellow taong bahays, here's what happened during the fourth day of my Cebu trip a few weeks ago--aka THE highlight of the trip---my birthday lang naman. :)

It was a beautiful Sunday!
Finally wore the Sinulog shirt na binili and pinacustomize namin sa Islands Souvenirs during our first day. I was expecting na moremore paint and crowd ang ganap that day so I made sure to bring and wear yun mga gamit na ok lang sakin kahit masira, mawala, manakaw, madumihan, etc.

Wreath - Anagon
Sinulog T-Shirt - Island Souvenirs
Floral Shorts - Ukay
Black Sneakers - Landmark

The shoes I bought day before our flight, P300+ lang kasi sa Landmark (I know, careeer na first timer! haha). While the bag napulot ko lang sa house, mga reject ng kapatid. The wreath I made this before pa, and true enough nawala sha nung na-mob ako sa Baseline later on. While the shorts, na-ukay ko lang before na ginawa ko naman na ding pambahay. ;p

After the drama of the night-before, I actually woke up on the right side of the bed. Or siguro, after years of proper conditioning, menos-emo nako whenever it's my birthday. Sorry paulit ulit ako about this tidbit because I feel na hindi lang ako ang dumaan (or still dumadaan) sa "quarter life crisis", "birthday blues", and semi-depression. Gusto ko lang ishare na for someone who has been there--may katapusan yan. Help yourself, and kahit mukhang mabagal ang progress, those little steps you take will make a big difference in the future! Anyway! So I checked my phone for birthday greetings, and eto na siguro ang isa sa mga favorites ko: Mommy's FB wall posts! :)

Haha!

Kamusta sa oversized bell sleeves diba! At least sheer! Hehehe:

The gang started the day with a brunch in Casa Verde, IT Park. Yung totoo, ang daming nag recommend sa akin to eat here pag nag Cebu daw ako! And another "yung totoo", ineexpect ko na vegetarian restaurant sha, kaya nirerecommend sakin! Yun pala....

Moremore steak!

Eto pa! Moremore meat!

I have the saddest plate. :p Bat nga uli sha tinawag na Casa Verde? Hehehe bitter. ;p

It was also Aie's last day! :( Here's a photo of her nung pasakay na sha ng cab pa-airport. :( Hindi na sha nakapag Sinulog parade / Baseline, but ang habol lang naman niya is the getaway for the weekend. Bye Aie!!! Till next YOLO trip!

After a few minutes of rest in our hotel room, nadecide namin we have to go out there to witness the main event of that day: The Sinulog Grand Parade! Sa totoo lang, nauuso na ang Sinulog sa Manila kids because of the Baseline street party ganaps--na infamous for the paint, wild kids, and basagan ng bote level of inuman! Haha! Infer gusto ko din naman maexperience yun, but other than that, I want to be part din of the city's traditional festivities. Sinulog is, after all, the commemoration of Filipinos' shift from paganism to Roman Catholicism--lahat nag start in Cebu.

Fun jeep ride! Buti nalang taga-Cebu si Mich so hindi kami naliligaw!

At home ang fashionista commuter! Haha:

Naa-"Are we there yet?" na ata kami ni Pax, and napansin naming hindi na magmomove yung jeep dahil sa dami ng road blocks and tao, we decided to go with the flow of people, and walked!

Street foods here and there, my weakness! ;p Naghahanap ako talaga non ng kwek-kwek, sayang wala hehe:

Another favorite! Mangga! With salt! ;p

Mais!!!

Yung mga nakasabit na yan, rice yan! :D They call these "puso". Sayang di ko man lang tinry. :p

Mich bought us these wide-rimmed hats in one of the street vendors dahil wala kaming payong and, hindi man halata sa pic, SOBRANG tirik sa araw that time. Dehydrating, pero I was super excited and happy lang kaya keber!

Parang strip lang sa Bora, minus the sand and sea, may mga nag hehenna din that time sa streets! Cute ni ate nag pogi pose pa for the cam, hehe:

Face painting station:

Hair color naman ang gimmick nila:

All sorts of Santo Nino on display all over the city!

People really go here whatever the weather. Tourist attraction narin sha--kaya kita mo na the crowd is a fair mix of locals and mga dayos.

Different people, all ages, sizes, social status, makikita mo dito! Different fashion sense din, like this kid ang cute lang ng two-tone glasses mo a, hehehe:

Sabi nga ni Wikipedia, ang word na Sinulog daw came from the Cebuano word sulog--"like water current movement"--na nagdedescribe daw ng two steps forward-one step backward moves ng Sinulog dance! Parang flow of water nga naman pag pinanuod mo from malayo!

Speaking of water, water creatures and under the sea naman ang ganap ng mga to:

After a while, we got tired and dehydrated na from watching, so we checked out the nearby kainans para aircon mode muna. Buti nalang a few steps away is this Orange Brutus, na puring puri sa amin ni Mich!

Mga pagod and pawis! Haha! Good thing may nataon kaming vacant chairs!

I asked Mich bakit mashadong big deal sa kanya yung Orange Brutus, simple lang naman nung food, and medyo hindi pa nga comfy yung ambiance. She told me na parang ito daw kasi ang Jollibee at McDo nila before nung kabataan niya, and wala pa atang fastfood chains noon sa kanila. In a way, the place and the food reminds her of her good childhood.

I had veggie lumpia and cheese sandwich. Gutom much! Haha!

We went back for more parada goodness! Giant Santo Nino:

Biglang nag stop in front of us these giant shelves with giant books!

It was late afternoon nadin, so we decided to walk na to Baseline. 3pm palang daw simula na ang party party dun, so we were afraid mga basag na ang madadatnan namin when we get there, haha.

We were super tired from the walks from the parade area, while looking for Baseline, so upo muna ako sa sidewalks. Pax decided to take outfit pics muna, and I was staring lang sa kalye when I saw this peculiar "panda":

Ang weird weeeird sobra! Haha!

And then all of a sudden it smelled like teen spirit na (hahaha)... Hello Baseline!

So Baseline is actually where all the young ones are. Dito na talaga ang party-party mode: dancing, booze (for drinking and para itapon sa isa't isa!), paint, and fun music! Ang saya niya actually, when we got there, asa kalagitnaan na ng pag iinom ang mga kabataang Pinoy so I sort-of people watched na muna while trying to comprehend where the hell was I when I was their age, lol joke.

Jam-packed streets! Pax and I were so game to get lost in the crowd, party and drink, basta we stick together. :) The thing is, ayaw kami pintahan ng mga tao dahil parang ang linis pa namin (or dahil kanya-kanya lang ata talaga sila ng dala ng paint! Should have bought muna sa National, haha!). First paint ko was from a girl na nakasalubong namin na may hawak ng Dong-A color red (hahaha detailed)--sinabi ko na talaga: "Penge!" Hahaha! Nag beg na!

So basically (yesss basically! Parang school report lang haha) Baseline is like the spring break sa America na napapanood ko lang sa movies and series. Mga college kids on vacay from school, nag book ng sabay sabay to Cebu to experience this street party! Maybe next time!

Tracy was also there with some friends! One of Tracy's friends nagkasugat na from the bubog because she's wearing slippers lang, and yung isa lost her phone pa! :s So to those na nagpaplano to Sinulog next year, wear shoes! And then make sure to keep your valuables secured in a body bag!

Don't you worry don't you worry child, see heaven's got a plan for youuuu!
Sume-Swedish House ang Baseline DJ!

One of my most memorable birthdays! :)
Thank you Pax for sticking with me! Infer pasado pa naman kaming college kids a, hahaha! ;p

We had dinner in the nearby Jones Brothers Pizza, rest nadin at super daming nilakad:

Yung totoo! Hahaha:

Pax with our pizzas! Narealize nalang namin na we over-ordered dahil malaki pala yung P88 nilang pizza!

We met some of Pax's friends, had more chika, and witnessed the fireworks display. :)
Perfect way to end the party!

We decided to go home na, and dun na nangyari yung aming Life of Pi walk! One of our stopovers was in Petron, as in sumalampak na ako sa sahig like a real kulasa na mahilig umupo sa floor, hehehe.

We spent HOURS walking from Baseline to wherever our feet took us. ALAY LAKAD! LAHAT ng transpo puno! Tumatawag si Pax kay Mich from time to time, but most of the time nirerely namin lahat sa pag tatanong at pagsunod sa mga jeep na alam naming going to our place. We had several encounters with drunk manyaks (lol), but we got back in our hotel room all in one piece! Most memorable birthday ever nga!

The survivors! Hahaha! Richard Parker left us unceremoniously, lol.

Gusto ko umiyak pagkahiga na pagkahiga ko sa bed, but ang nasabi ko nalang was, "I need my mommyyyy!" Hahaha. Yun ang like a brat! :p Pero laughtrip parin kami ni Pax niyan a! Like real baliws...habang nagpupunas ng paint sa face, nasabi namin ang biggest realization talaga after all these is that: "At the end of the day........the KILAY is still intact!" Hahahaha!

Happy Weekend Guys! :)
