Jason Mraz Manila Concert 2013

Friday, May 17, 2013

Lord, I can't think of any other artist who has reached me in this certain depth other than Jason Mraz! (anudaw!? Hahaha!)

Seriously, I lined up ng napakaagang 2pm for a concert of an artist na napanood ko naman na few years ago. "Iba to", I told my friend days before the concert.

After buying my gen ad tickets, I had so much time to spare. I wasted time in coffee shops with wifi (Scroll-scroll-scroll-refresh! Lol). I also bought a pair of new jeans to cover my leg na nascratch in the bulok bus I rode that morning. And then, just before going to another coffee shop, I saw blogger (and BU angel!) Jen--so I tagged along with her milk tea break for a long catch up.

At around 7pm, I lined up uli for the Gen Ad section while waiting for my concert buddy Krissy (na may work). Naisip ko, since mahaba ang pila, baka perfect lang yung dating ni Krissy pagpapasok na ako ng entrance. Imagine umuulan, outdoor ang line, and naka-zigzag kami sa tapal-tapal na tent and payong! Buti nalang I saw my high school kabarkada Mons and her brother, so may kachikahan ako (and nasingitan, hehe, peace sa mga kalikod!!!).

Few minutes later, and exactly in front of the Gen Ad gate, I was thinking na pagkapasok ko, no re-entry na so Krissy will have to get the ticket from me sa gate, and line up uli sa zigzag. Then I got a call. Niche offered me TWO Upper A (SRO) tickets (worth P3700 each) in exchange of my tig-P840 Gen Ads.

Me to Niche: "DUUUUDE!!!! Sure ka hindi Maroon 5 to a!???!"
Niche: "Umalis ka na jan sa pila mo."
Lol. Di na ako makikiargue jan! Thank you Niche!!!

Inside the venue, Araneta was packed already when we entered. Krissy and I were holding SRO tickets (no seat numbers) so every time the seat owners arrive, squatter mode lang na we transfer to another vacant chairs. Haha! Kwela lang, though. In the end, we decided to ask the Araneta dude kung saan ba pwede ang SRO tickets, and to our kaswertehan, we can even sit daw sa harap na harap na hagdan ng Upper A. We settled there. I was nervous while waiting, just like the first time I watched him live, akala mo naman ako ang kakanta! Hahaha!

Krissy: "Cheap Monday pa naman tong pants ko, pero keber!!!"
Hahaha!!!!

I can't remember the opening act, but naalala ko when Krissy wanted to go to the CR, but can't, because "Favorite ko talaga yung moment na pag enter ng artist sa stage e!" And true enough, first song palang, Krissy biglang blurted out, "Okay mas maganda na sha kaagad sa The Script!" Haha! And si Krissy ang hardcore The Script fan, and asa VIP sha nun a!

The Highlights (for me)

The Band (photo source) - During Mr. A-Z's 2011 concert here in Manila, he had a simple acoustic set-up with Toca Rivera. This year, ang dami niyang baon! Eksena ang FULL band, na ang daming talent - all kinds of string instruments, amusing accordion, flute, violin, harmonica, and yung three guys with trumpets! It was like watching yung mga cool street bands abroad! I love the choreographed dance moves din, akkkkk too cute!!!

Gratitude Song (vid source) - "Who I am Today", a song I heard for the first time, but loved it kaagad. Ang lakas ng positivity - from his intro, to the song.... Parang The Secret converted into a concert!
"Well, I do got to tell you though, worrying about stuff....IT WORKS. It really works because 90% of the things I worry about? Never happens."

The Woman I Love (vid source) - For the hopeless romantic in me, hehe. :) I love his intro for this song, “This next song is for all the dudes ..because we all know how the ladies can go a little bit crazy sometimes. They cry and they whine and they forget how great they are.” (AWWW). Also, I chose this vid na malayo (upper a perspective?) para kita the LED screens - showing photos of women. At the end of the song, Jason Mraz revealed that these are partners, moms, aunts, and all other significant women in the lives of Jason and his band members/crew (AWWW uli!!!)

Beautiful Mess (vid source) - OH MY GOD. Kahit nirereplay ko nalang ang pag nuod nito via youtube, OH MY GOD parin!!! I was holding Krissy's arm during the song - na nag start with the classic beautiful guitar plucking intro---and then followed by the solemn, sad sound of the violin (0:27) ... and then the drums and then trumpets of a full band! POTA napamura talaga ako while watching! "POTA KRISSY!!! PARANG WEDDING SONG!!!!!!"

"And we tore our dresses and stained our shirts. But it's nice today, oh the wait was so worth it." Lord gusto ko na mainlove uli!!! Hahaha!

I'm Yours / Three Little Birds (vid source) - Always the HAPPY song! I'm Yours was a highlight of the 2011 concert, but for this year, panalo yung old Mr. A to Z illustrations flashed during the song! AND!!! And the Bob Marley twist!!!! Watch how the concert goers sang "Every little thing's gonna be alright!" to one another, to friends, to strangers...!!!

(More highlights in this beautiful Vlog I saw in Youtube!)

EVERY concert and even every casual sound trip lang at home or while commuting--no fail, he will always leave me in a more positive disposition.

...Yung feeling na parang parati kang nananalo? YUN!
God, life is good!
Thank you again, Jason Mraz!

Im so happy someone out there feels exactly the same way i do about the whole jason mraz concert. When he came here in 2011 kasi i just graduated from college and couldnt afford the trip (im from davao) so i told myself talaga im going to the next one. So worth it talaga!! When i got back to davao, my friend invited me to come back to manila daw to watch christina aguilera, and i just said isipin ko muna kasi si mr. A-z na yung ultimate concert dream ko e. Hahaha ang loser ng comment kong mala-diary ang haba.
