UNIQLO x MOMA = SPRZ NY

Monday, March 31, 2014

Last December, my sisters and I visited the Museum of Modern Art (or MOMA) while we were in New York:

It was part of our 1-day tour around the city, it is a place that houses modern and and contemporary art:

MOMA had me at Kusama, Warhol, Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, and--OF COURSE--Van Gogh!

So when I found out that UNIQLO releases a collaboration with MOMA, sobrang naexcite ako! Parang thrumowback Thursday ako to New York! ;p

Diba parang museum!? :D Hehe!

Uniqlo Mega Fashion Hall! A happy place!

The collab is called the SPRZ NY (or Surprise New York), a new global project showing the marriage of art and fashion (my two favorites!). The collection consists of specially designed T-shirts, outerwear, totes, etcetera, featuring famed and influential artists of our time.

The MoMA Special Edition designs are based on the works of the world-renowned Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Jack Pierson, Jackson Pollock, Lawrence Weiner, Ryan McGinness, and Sarah Morris:

Products are available at UNIQLO stores worldwide, and at MoMAStore.org, where each purchase supports the Museum’s exhibitions and educational programming. < 3

Personal favorites are these Warhol tees:

The second floor of UNIQLO’s Fifth Avenue Global Flagship Store in New York is being remodeled for this project and will reopen on March 28 as the SPRZ NY Store. As part of this renovation, it will include the introduction of the unique Starbucks Experience with a full service coffeehouse, creating a space for family and friends to connect on Fifth Avenue.

Commenting on today’s announcement Fast Retailing Chairman, President and CEO Tadashi Yanai said, “We are extremely pleased to have such wonderful partners as MoMA and Starbucks. Through SPRZ NY, we will give customers around the world a taste of enjoying exceptional art by wearing our specially designed clothes and items, reinforcing our LifeWear mission.”
