Stretch Your Summer or Vacation Wardrobe with a Fun Sarong

Wednesday, October 01, 2014

Packing for a vacation is one of the most frustrating experiences you can imagine. Just as soon as you think you have everything you need, you turn around and see a stack of clothes you missed. When you need to make room for your children's clothing or your partner's clothing, packing becomes even more of a nuisance. Even if you prefer to stay closer to home during the warmer months, you might want to expand you wardrobe without spending a lot of money. Once you find out some of the fun ways you can wear a sarong, you'll know that it's the perfect way to expand your wardrobe without throwing away money on items you can only wear a few times a year.

Cover Up Your Bikini

While you might love wearing a bikini on the beach, you probably don't like walking or driving to the beach without some type of cover up. With a simple sarong, you can create a great skirt that hides your bikini until you're ready to reveal it. Lay the sarong flat and fold it from one corner to the next to create a large triangle. Simply wrap it around your waist and tie the ends together on one hip. Once you reach the beach, you can drop your sarong and use it as a beach blanket.

Create an Elegant Dress

Turn your simple sarong into a dress that's worthy of a beach trip or a night out with friends. Instead of folding the sarong, wrap it around your body longwise. Hold one corner of the sarong near your left shoulder blade, and wrap the fabric around your body. Pull the opposite corner of the sarong back towards your right shoulder blade. Keep tugging on either end until you have enough room that you can tie the ends together behind your neck.

Make Your Own Shirt

There are a few different ways that you can turn a sarong into a shirt. Fold the fabric in half like you did with the cover up, but place the largest part of the triangle over your chest. Tie the ends of the sarong behind your back to show a little skin. If you want to show even more skin, fold the sarong a few times, wrap it around your chest and tie it in the back to create a bandeau. With sarongs from FairWindsSarongs.com and other retailers, you can make dozens of new outfits.

  1. I love sarongs! They're so perfect for a mild cover-up when you're wearing a bikini on a beach.
