Boon Tong Kee Rockwell Powerplant Mall

Tuesday, October 20, 2015

Last week mocked my Ate's diet and gym life because she will never say no to good food, hehehe. After our hotpot dinner in Four Seasons, we ended workday weekday with a dinner in Rockwell Powerplant Mall's Boon Tong Kee - a very popular restaurant in Singapore.

The third branch in the country (they also have BTK in SM Mall of Asia and UP Town Center), Boon Tong Kee started with just a small stall in Chinatown Singapore, serving good Cantonese chicken rice in 1979. Mr. Thian Boon Hua's silky white sauce chicken rice became very popular, he and his family decided to set-up their first restaurant in Balestier Road. And the rest, as they say, is history!

Their branch in Rockwell is located at the 3rd floor, near the cinemas and Muji. Restaurant is fuss-free, clean, and welcoming.

Some of the Chef's Specials:

By the entrance are these Baked Pork Buns, which are good according to my sister Cea who works near Rockwell and always dine here with her officemates.

But because Cea was busy, I shared the table with my Ate Kaka, who loves Singapore (country) and their food (almost all her friends live there na).

At every table are the typical Singaporean trio condiments: Chicken Rice Chilli Sauce, Hoisin Sauce, and Ginger Paste. To me, these are the make or break!

Here are the different dishes that we tried that night:

Deep Fried Eggplant + Green Tea Mayo Dip - Ate and I agree that this is one of our favorite dishes that night. Eggplant is crispy, worked well with the breading and its sauce.

Crispy Beancurd - nice texture, while soft on the inside. The Crispy Beancurd goes well with the green tea mayo dip, but I also liked it with the hoisin and ginger. :p

They also served the same dishes to me without the pork floss, thank you!

Poached Chinese Spinach with Assorted Eggs - Another favorite. Their veggies are fresh, and the sauce is very tasty. I'll go back to BTK for this, actually!

Fried French Bean and Scallops

Everything's fresh:

Seafood Noodles - sauce is super sarap, and noodles are nice and thick.

Signature Boiled Chicken

Sambal Fried Rice - looks very appetizing! You can also choose the level of spiciness for this.

My special Vegetarian Fried Rice

Ate enjoying every dish, everything's good for me but we chose our top picks! I will personally go for the Deep Fried Eggplant and Poached Spinach, while Ate loves the Signature Boiled Chicken (Hainanese Chicken)!

Finished everything with this Barley drink! Very refreshing, and also very healthy.

If you're up for Singaporean cuisine, here's the rest of the Boon Tong Kee menu:

They also offer Singaporean Rice Bowls that are very affordable:

Singaporean cuisine is most probably one of my top 5 Asian food favorites because of their variety of dishes and flavors. I love that Boon Tong Kee served a lot of vegetables and other viand options in their menu, and of course, really really good rice! Their unlimited trio sauce is also my favorite.

Ate and I went out of the restaurant full and happy with all the good food that we had (may takeout pa, hehe), and the great service. It was all GV, we didn't even mind traveling back south on a Friday-Payday night. A branch in Alabang, please? :)
