If it's not yet obvious, I am all for hostels and Airbnb when traveling. Luxury accommodation can wait. For now, while still budget traveling, I'd rather spend on other things and just book for a convenient and affordable place where I can safely leave my luggage and rest for the night.
This was our room in Osaka, Japan last April 2015. Ate booked this room via Airbnb.

When we arrived in the building on our first night, we just went ahead to the room (hindi sya naka lock!). Keys were left on our bed, as directed by our host to my Ate through their numerous exchange of messages before the trip.

The room is tiny, but private, and very clean and complete.
We both had our own beds, so comfort wasn't compromised.
Around the room, the essentials were all provided: Rolls of toilet papers, towels, hair dryer, a pocket wifi (that we brought around during the whole trip), and a tiny kitchen with small ref, pans, utensils, cups and a kettle.

What I like about booking via Airbnb is that you can choose your home based on your desired location. We stayed in Osaka's food district Dotonbori!
Our place is also super near several minimarts. We had all our cheap breakfasts in Lawson (nakakamiss!).
Walking distance lang din siya dito. We always had great dinners in Osaka!
And, of course, it is also walking distance to the train station!
