I Got Myself A Crown! | My Dental Crown Experience: Cost, Procedure, Etc.

Monday, September 02, 2019

I just got myself a crown.. A dental crown! 😁

I found myself constantly in my dental clinic Affinity Dental Makati for the past month to get a Dental Crown procedure. Getting a crown is not an urgent required procedure after a root canal operation, but it is recommended to support and protect the remaining tooth structure, to restore functionality of your tooth, and of course for your dental aesthetics. I never knew I needed it till I finally got it!

You can read more about my Long Overdue Root Canal experience here, or proceed with this blog post for more information on Dental Crowns and if you might need one too!

Affinity Dental Clinics has been my go-to for my dental health since 2017. They have several branches around the Metro, but I go to the one in Rufino, Makati.

I feel comfortable every time I wait for my appointment at the Affinity Dental Makati. The place has always been homey and spacious. Aside from having my own personal space where I can read my magazines or browse online, I also like that they have nice artwork all over the clinic that I enjoy looking into!

Now let's go back to my Dental Crown procedure.

I went back to the clinic around 3x in total. First and second visits were for my consultations and analysis, tooth preparation, and dental impression, while the third visit was for my dental crown fitting, adjusting, and installing. There is about 3-week interval while I waited for my last session since it will take time to create the crown.

It's a relief that the whole process for me was pain-free, and every visit was brief, except for the last when they needed to adjust the crown in-house to perfectly fit my tooth. I also had no experiences of discomfort after getting the crown, except for a few days just to adjust to the new tooth!

Watching Kdrama during my procedures:

I asked my dentist Doc Iya Paras a few questions about Dental Crowns that might be useful to some of you. Here goes!

What are dental crowns? What are they made out of?

Dental crowns are fixed/cemented restorations to replace all the surfaces of the tooth. It can be made out of different materials such as, metal, porcelain, resin, zirconia, etc.

Who usually gets dental crown? (cases / dental conditions that need dental crown)

Dental crowns are usually recommended for patients who have badly broken down teeth due to decay, patients who have discolored teeth due to root canal treatment, or patients who have malformed teeth due to developmental anomalies.

How many days will it take to accomplish dental crown procedure?

Fabrication of dental crowns would usually take about 1 to 2 weeks depending on the material used and on the case of the patient.

Here's the dental impression showing the mould of my lower teeth, and where my dental crown will be placed:

It looks like a legit tooth in real life!

Dos and Donts after getting a dental crown? Are there food to avoid? Etc.

After cementation of the crown, you should be able to use it like a normal tooth. Given that, you should also take care of it like a natural tooth. Make sure you brush and floss that area regularly. We recommend patients not to bite on to very hard food to prevent breakage.

Are dental crowns permanent? If not, how long will it last?

Like your normal tooth, crowns also have their normal wear and tear. We tell patients that with proper fabrication and maintainance, crowns can last you years. But of course, you need to visit your dentist regulary to have it checked and cleaned as well.

How much is the cost of getting dental crown?

The cost of a dental crown depends on the material to be used. It could range from Php 10,000 up to Php 30,000.

Are there other alternatives for dental crowns, and what are the advantages of getting dental crown than other procedures?

If the treatment plan requires a dental crown, then I believe it is what's best for the patient. Some may opt for light cured fillings but it may fail if the case calls for a crown.

Trying to smile with the crown finally on for the first time! Haha!

Btw, Affinity Dental is having 11% off on everything Anniversary Sale from September 1 to 11! I'd say, it's the perfect time to book for your procedures! Discover your options by visiting https://affinitydentalclinics.com.
