Things To Do in Hong Kong: ARTE M Museum

Sunday, August 20, 2023

Like any day 1s, Cea and I decided to just take it easy upon arriving in Hong Kong.

We had our lunch at the airport Mcdo, took the airport bus to our Airbnb in Mongkok, and then rested a bit in our room. It was late in the afternoon when we decided to walk outside and hop on the nearest train station.

The name of the place we were going to is Arte Museum or ARTE M Hong Kong--depends where you're searching. I discovered it while browsing Klook for ideas

If you're looking for something new to do in Hong Kong, check out ARTE M Museum

ABOUT ARTE M HONG KONG

Their website describes ARTE M as "an immersive media exhibition created by Korean digital design company d'strict". I had no idea it's a Korean chain, and they actually also have exhibits around Korea including Yeosu, Jeju, Gangneung, and Busan!

ARTE M might be the typical lights show with different themed rooms we often see these days, but overall I actually enjoyed it. They were trying to achieve a full sensory experience (sight, smell, auditory), which I find creative and interesting. The theme for the whole exhibit is ETERNAL NATURE, and instead of just the photogenic play of lights, they also made sure each themed rooms have matching sensuous sounds and elegant fragrances.

THE EXHIBITIONS

When we went there last April, the available themed rooms were the Aurora Beach, Jungle Glow, Flower Camellia, Wave, and Flower. There are new rooms now such as Whale, Flower Wisteria, and Lost Tube--which I think is a good thing coz they keep adding something new to the lineup.

Here are some descriptions of the exhibitions that we saw:

AURORA BEACH

Brave the fierce waves illuminated by a luminous aurora. Observe the surreal ocean unfold as the sparking, gravity-defying waves reach for the night sky.

JUNGLE GLOW

The night deepens when the darkness comes, and the sparkling living beings illuminate the jungly. meet transparent, bioluminescent creatures embracing the colors of their surroundings, and you will experience the mystery of this jungle.

Love Cea's pose here hehehe

FLOWER CAMELLIA

Meet the flower of love and the cycle of life. Camellia blooms when the wind cools. It has no scent, but its radiance allures the Chickadees to help the flower bloom. Once they reach the most exquisite flowering state, the camellia in full bloom falls as it is. Feel the beauty of their vibrant and poetic life, which resembles the lyrical and exquisite beauty of ours.

WAVE

Face the enormous waves crashing towards you and experience their resonance full of paradox. The waves undulate as if they are about to swallow the entire space, but they are also trapped in an uncanny space created by the anamorphic illusion.

Projected lights that felt realistic

FLOWER RAPESEED

Feel the splendor of vitality in the strong and beautiful flowers that bloom after a long, cold winter. A magical light shines on the flowers, petals rise to the sky, and new blooms appear on the branch where the fallen flowers were. The eternal cycle of life creates this golden garden of glistening rapeseed flowers.

Personally, my favorite rooms are the FLOWER and AURORA BEACH. They still overwhelmed me, again, even after seeing a lot of these lights concept exhibitions. I like the FLOWER rooms coz it felt like I am in BTS RM's Wildflower music video! 😁 Meanwhile, the AURORA BEACH reminded me of one of my travel bucket lists which is to see the northern lights!

Felt like I am in Namjoon's Wildflower music video, hehehe

TIPS / NOTES FOR AN ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCE

- Arrive early to beat the crowds and have more time to explore. According to their website, on average, the exhibition is crowded from 2pm to 4pm. We were there at around 4pm, and had a comfortable experience.

- Please invest about an hour to explore the exhibitions.

- Photos and videos are allowed, enjoy and maximize what you want to document, if it's your thing.

- Engage with the art—read descriptions, ponder the meanings, and let your imagination roam.

As with anything in life, the experience is what you make out of it. We came with childlike eyes, and definitely enjoyed! :)
