100: The Francis Libiran Fashion Gala at Manila Hotel

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

As Manila Hotel celebrates its centennial anniversary this year, the Grand Dame will host a grand fashion show featuring the creations of Francis Libiran.

Dubbed as 100: The Francis Libiran Fashion Gala, this 70-piece collection is a tribute to the evolution of Philippine fashion as it unfolds at Manila Hotel.

On September 28, the Manila Hotel will again set the stage for a fashion genius whose talent is recognized both in the local and international fashion scene. Designer Francis Libiran is inspired by fashion of the times at Manila Hotel, where designers Ramon Valera, Pitoy Moreno, Ben Farrales, Ceasar Gaupo, Auggie Cordero, Patis Tesoro, and Inno Sotto exhibited their creations with fashion shows at the Hotel.

Went to the press preview a few days ago, and had lunch in the Manila Hotel Champagne Room:

I am in love with this hall!

Tracy rumirich kid of instagram! Hehe!

What we had: The fancy food and the even fancier plates and kubyertos:

Chocolate plate, my favorite! :) Hehe:

On to the program:

Taking advantage of his background in architecture, Libiran will incorporate in his creations the structural design of the Hotel and its Filipino themed interiors. For his fashion gala, Libiran has created seven collections: his signature Lines and Layers; Pearl and Crystal that are inspired by the Filipino elements in the Hotel; the Callado, Gold, and Cut-Out that speak of elegance and timeless fashion. The Grand Lobby will be transformed into a runway to let the guests see and feel this beautiful marriage of fashion and architecture.

“For this collection, I took inspiration from the fashion luminaries and design icons of the Philippines whose creations I’ve seen and admired when I was just starting as a designer,” says Libiran. “It is such an honor to be given the chance to be part of this milestone with Manila Hotel,” he adds.

Libiran, known for his stuctural designs and play with lines on his creations, has been designing couture dresses for Philippine A-listers and celebrities. The international market was introduced to Libiran when his creations were featured in America’s Next Top Model British Invasion and his gowns worn by Hollywood celebrity and supermodel Tyra Banks. Libiran’s designs are classic and exude elegance and luxury, the qualities that Manila Hotel is also known for.

My lovely company during the lunch event:

Tracy and Paul won gifts from Treseme gift bag! They also gave away FIVE

“The Manila Hotel takes pride in nurturing the Filipino talent. It is a privilege to work with Francis Libiran whose talent has been recognized around the world,” says Manila Hotel Executive Vice President Enrique Y. Yap, Jr.

  5. Ooh La La! Evelyn Sineneng-Smith "Introduced" Francis Libiran, Oliver Tolentino and Monique Lhuillier to Carla Zimbelman's students of "Special Occasion Couture Fabrics"

The fashion students of Monterey Peninsula College recently viewed with awe and admiration the couture gowns projected into the giant 10ftx10ft screen by Evelyn Sineneng-Smith and Carla Zimbelman. The red-carpet beauties featured were Maria Menounos in a blue "jusi", Ginnifer Goodwin in a persimmon-orange frock and Tyra Banks in an architect-designed gown... "architect?"

Monterey, CA (PRWEB) November 04, 2012
Carla Zimbelman, Professor of fashion courses at Monterey Peninsula College, recently invited Evelyn Sineneng-Smith, a Fashion Entrepreneur based in Silicon Valley, to lecture to her fashion students, the couture fabrication techniques utilized by designers Francis Libiran, Oliver Tolentino and Monique Lhuillier. The three featured designers created special occasion gowns for the red-carpet, modeled by celebrities at the recent 2012 Emmys in Los Angeles and the 2012 Blossom Ball in New York.
Oliver Tolentino created a blue gown worn by Maria Menounos, the co-host of the dimpled Mario Lopez of EXTRA. Evelyn described to the fashion students the "jusi", the unique fabric used by Oliver Tolentino. "Jusi" is made of fibers stripped from the stalks and leaves of a banana tree. These fibers were then carefully woven in an old-fashioned hand loom to create the fabric. It was then dyed into royal blue, intricately put together and worn beautifully by Maria Menounos at the recent 2012 Emmy Awards.
World-class designer, Monique Lhuillier, the amazing genius behind her own global brand, created a champagne beige gown meticulously hand-embellished with persimmon-orange vines all over the gown. This was worn elegantly on the red carpet at the recent 2012 Emmys by Hollywood actress, Ginnifer Goodwin, of the popular "Once Upon A Time" television series.
Finally, Evelyn "introduced" Francis Libiran, on the giant screen, to the amazement of the fashion students of Carla Zimbelman. Francis, an architect by profession and who is also a fashion designer based in the Philippines, created his own special occasion fabric using strips of bias cut fabric and individually arranged to create the linear effect. This architecturally-inspired black and white gown was worn by statuesque supermodel Tyra Banks at the 2012 Blossom Ball in New York.
Carla Zimbelman, also herself a fashion designer, teaches fashion courses at the Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, California. She is currently working with the Department Chair of the college to revamp the Fashion Program of the college. She designs couture handbags with her own label, "Carla Renee". A fashionista can choose from Carla's portfolio of over 300 leather swatches, all made in the USA. She is an alumna of the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in San Francisco, California.
Evelyn Sineneng-Smith is a Fil-Am Fashion Entrepreneur and intermixes her Legal, Business and Internet Marketing skills with her Passion for Fashion! She is based in San Jose, the capital of Silicon Valley in California.
