Supplement Myths Busted!

Thursday, March 07, 2019

I just turned 33 last January, and I've never felt this busy in my life! I have a lot of things going on since 2019 started, so I make sure to check in on my health from time to time just because getting sick is the last thing I want to happen right now!

One of the things that I do aside from drinking lots of water everyday and staying away from vices like smoking and drinking is adding nutritional supplements to my diet.

I heard a lot of the myths involving supplements, and tried reading up on them so I know that I am all good.

Here are some interesting myths about some of the daily supplements that I take daily:

1) Best source of Vitamin C is Citrus

We all assume that the best source of Vitamin C is eating oranges or kalamansi, but it turns out bell pepper has the highest amount of Vitamin C! Other good Vitamin C sources include broccoli, papaya, strawberries, and sprouts.

2) You just pee the excess Vitamin C

They say that excess Vitamin C intake is not bad, your kidneys just eliminate the excess through your urine. This doesn't mean though that you can just consume big doses of Vitamin C everyday without any side effects. You may experience diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, insomnia, and kidney stones, so be careful and just take you vitamins in recommended dosage.

3) Glutathione is for Skin Whitening

Although its true that gluta lightens the skin, it is just a side-effect of its primary use which is to detoxify the liver and strengthen the immune system!

Here are some of the other health benefits we get from Glutathione:

 - Increases Energy

- Improves Focus

- Detoxifies Liver and Cells

- Improves Quality of Sleep

- Strengthens Immune System

-Reduces Impact of Illness (such as liver problem, cataract, skin problems, etc)

- Antioxidant

- Anti-Hangover

- Improves Skin Health and Appearance

4) We Need To Take Glutathione!

Did you know that Glutathione is a substance that is already in our bodies? It is a substance produced by the liver, and not a whitening chemical in beauty products!

But why do we have to take Gluta supplements if we already have it in our body? It's because we lose Glutathione in our bodies due to stress, pollution, aging, when we don't eat right, and when we have vices like tobacco or alcohol.

5) All Glutathione Supplements Are The Same

While other brands use non-reduced glutathione, which may give little to no benefits, Snow Caps contain L-Glutathione or “Reduced Glutathione” which our body easily absorbs. If you're interested in taking this kind of supplement, make sure to get a brand that promotes L-Glutathione (not just glutathione) to ensure effectivity of what you pay for since they are usually a bit expensive!

Snow Caps Premium contains 500mg of premium L-Glutathione per capsule, plus Alpha Lipolic Acid (100mg) and Vit C (100mg). Best to take one capsule every morning when glutathione levels are at its lowest and oxidative stress at its highest. Price is P1,475 for 1 box with 30 capsules, and readily available at all leading drugstores nationwide.

Do you also take supplements daily? What do you recommend?
